ARE YOU AN ARCHITECT? Yes, Iīm an architect, not an artist, more a craftsman.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM? After school I have learned the vocation of a carpenter. Then I have been studying not only at one university but in Kaiserslautern, in Darmstadt, in Delft (NL) and also in Poland. I think, it was important to me to be influenced by the different universities.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU? It is important to me that I can identify me with the things I do. That was also the reason for studying architecture... Not to make to much or to big compromises, also if so many people have to do something with construction as it is the case. You have to have conviction, fun by working. And the fun will be there only than if you are not forced to do your job.
To architecture itself: Matter of course instead of obtrusiveness.
WHAT ABOUT DRESDEN? In Dresden I often see the contrast to Rotterdam, where I lived before I came to Saxony: Not so vital, more conservative and with a big distrust against new architecture. On the one hand the unique qualities like the connection between the town and the landscape will be preserved by the strong orientation on the historic townscape. On the other hand the qualities of new buildings are only compared to the "old" Dresdenīs architecture. The people are not aware that the modern projects have an own potential and quality. That makes work troublesome.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK? My work you can see if it is done. And as a rule I like to look at it.
FUTURE? Dresden is o.k. - I like to live here.
I like to be self-employed and an architect. If I would loose the fun at work or the belief in doing something clever I would try to change my profession.
WHICH QUESTION YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE ASKED? No unanswered questions for now!
